This is, as it happens, still difficult for an owl.

Sniff. Snifffff.

Enzo's lapse in concentration probably means he loses (curse you, short attention span!), but this is very curious, because he can smell the bird.

Only it doesn't smell of bird. It smells of wood, and fabric, and metal, and clay.

He sniffs again, possibly encroaching on the owl's personal space. "Are you a god?" he demands.

The owl is very suddenly a woman.

"Maybe."

Yipe no he's not startled at all what are you talking about.

"Knew it."

Curiously: "How so?"

"I could smell ya. I can't smell much around here, 'cause everything's matter and I can only smell energy."

"Energy? What do you mean?"

"Your god-power. It's a kind of energy. You smell like... a bunch of stuff. Wood, and metal..." He sniffs again. Not so much wood, really, as sawdust. Suddenly it clicks. "You smell like people making things."

This prompts an amused sort of smile.

"You're good at this, aren't you?"

And note -- that is said in entire sincerity.

"Well, there's not a lot of other smells to get in the way." But he looks pleased with himself. "Is that what you're god of? Making things?"

"In the broadest sense, wisdom," she responds.

"Artistry, knowledge, chastity, and sometimes war. I am Athena."

"I'm Enzo. What's chastity?"

What? The word has never come up.

Ahhhhshit.

"Um, the practice of abstinence?"

"Dunno that one either."

...

"Not having sex?"

"Ohhhhhh."

He blushes slightly, a darker jade green. It's quite pretty, really.

Then he looks puzzled. "They need a god for that?"

Athena shrugs slightly.

"I protect the virgins. And, anyhow, basically everything is delegated to one god or another."

Enzo shakes his head. "I don't get religion. Sorry."

Athena shrugs.

"Some tell me it's overrated. So where're you in from?"

"Cyberspace. Do you know computers?"

"Yes. Yes I do."
