So, Anita's been busy.

In the meddlesome, over-protective, annoying way she usually is, but she has been busy.

However, at the moment, she is preparing to step back through the door to St. Louis. She had spent most of the time with her pard and Damian, but had run across Richard a couple of times. Tense, as usual, and the conversation always short-lived. She was always chasing after someone, needing to be somewhere else.

Tonight, though, she's seated in a booth, readying herself to go back to the city.

To go back, tell Jean-Claude about this place, and drag his ass back somehow.

But, before she does that, she's hoping to talk to a couple of people.

"Indeed," Teja says. "That is what I would do."

Unless there was nothing to do -- then, Teja would readily give in to melancholy; but that only drove him to silence, not complaints.

Anita gives him a polite smile.

"I'd like to think it's what most people would do."

"I think many weak-willed men from the future," Teja says, "would rather look for who they can blame. And a Roman might have looked for who they might sue."

"Blame isn't very helpful. Things are the way they are, and you just swim or drown under it all. I think I'd rather swim."

"So did I," Teja says.

She sounds more sensible than he had expected, so far.

Anita is very sensible, very practical.

She gives him another nod and picks up her coffee, sipping slowly.

Teja nods to her, and walks away.

At least he knows what she looks like, now.
