[OOM: One commission, two gifts and an unexpected visitor. Small warning for a bit of blood and gore.]

Weyland returns to the bar sometime later, when he has recovered enough to appear calm again, and he carries the gifts he has made up to the bar. It looks like it's going to be another Atlantean night.

He takes a seat at the bar, and waits. There's one person in particular he's waiting for and several others he'd be very happy to see, but really any distraction would be welcome.

"Well enough," he says, picking up his glass of wine. He takes a sip.

"And you? Keeping busy, I see."

"Yes, sir, its restful and enjoyable work."

"That it is."

He knows he generally finds it relaxing, at any rate.

"Making anything interesting?"

"I'm working on a mechanical frog to catch bugs for my mother when she's sleeping outside."

"Ah... yes, that would be very handy, especially if you live in a climate warm enough to sleep outside through most of the year," he nods. "We slept outside now and then, but it was wilderness camping, in the cold, and our women preferred to stay indoors."

"As Abhorsen, Mother has to travel a lot and to some uncomfortable places. I just hope this can make it a little better for her."

"You'll need some way to dispose of the bugs," he says. "There are so many of them out there, and always more. But I'm sure you've got that covered."

"I have some ideas that I think might work but at the moment I'm focusing on how it moves."

"Interestingly counterintuitive," he says, and takes another sip of wine. "There are different schools of crafting--myself, I know I tend to overplan things sometimes."

"I usually find if I start planning then I end up with an idea for something else. It works better for me to just make things."

"Sometimes I will just fiddle around--especially here, I get bored so easily--but most of the time, when I set out to make something in particular, I have to consider what materials I will need, and so planning is necessary. It isn't just metal."

"Val's mentioned that you make things will magic, but hasn't really gone into any details just that you're teaching her."

"That was part of our arrangement," he nods, "that she would not go into details with other people. She is a good student, very... insightful."

"Of course. She's only spoken and shown me the kinds of things that are really her style of working."

"Her style and mine aren't exactly the same--our worlds are very different, after all--but there's enough overlap that we have made it work, at least well enough to have lessons," he nods.

"Yes, there are so many ways of working here."

"There are," he agrees. "I have often spoke of it with Teja--he is very pleased with the new styles of crafting he has been able to learn, here."

"He's trying to teach me to be better at explaining what I do. Its not something that I've ever really done before."

"How do you mean?" he asks. "Explaining techniques?"

"More just talking about my work, no one really asks me what I'm doing at home."

"Surely you must have been apprenticed to someone?" he asks. "Or have guildmates, or... fellow workers?"

"No, I did some work with the smith in the palace and he showed me some things, but we didn't talk very much."

"Among my people we had a very rigid system of apprentices, which was at times very unfair to the apprentices, but it got the job done," he says. "But teaching methods too differ among worlds and peoples."

"I'm the Abhorsen in Waiting so I'm not really able to be an apprentice."

He nods once. "I was a prince, back when I was young, and helped my father with his duties of protecting the borders--but he sent me away to be apprenticed. If one has a talent, it should be nurtured."
