Jack has been sitting at the bar 'cleaning his gun' cleaning his gun peacefully. After a while, however, a napkin pops up on Bar's surface, and he blinks then grins down at it.

"Of course I can," he tells her. "Where'd you keep the books?"

Ten minutes later, the specials are chalked up on the board and Jack stands ready, stripped down to shirtsleeves and a grin.

Specials - half off if you're cute.

"This is one of the more interesting drinks I have been served here," Teja says, inhaling the scent of the herb, and limes, and rum.

"I have been called 'handsome in an unusual way', but never 'cute': - I am sure that I am not, by any standards of cuteness."

Jack laughs cheerfully, tipping ice into the glass and reaching for the soda tap.

"Well, I'm aware I see things differently from a lot of people. Here we go."

He adds a stirrer, and slides the drink across.

"Maybe I should not protest against being charged half-price," Teja says, with a small smile.

He sips the drink. "This is truly good," he says, holding the glass in his hand and inhaling the scents of the drink.

"Good point," Jack says sagely.

Then he grins. "Glad to hear it," he says. "I love unusual twists on the classics, don't you?"

"So, for the length of this drink, I shall agree to be called cute," Teja says. "And indeed, I do not know the classic this is based on. What would it be like?"

"If you can bear it," Jack says brightly.

Ah, bartender's rules.

"The original has mint instead. That's nice too, in it's way."

Teja ponders the idea. "I think I prefer basil in this," he says.

Jack allows himself to look mildly smug.

"Then I'll call this choice a win," he says. "Seems to be the most popular this evening, too."

"Basil is a nice and interesting herb?" Teja says.

[othercaptjack]

"Yeah," Jack says.

"Also featured dried on italian food... here."

He plucks a few leaves from the little bush growning on the bar and passes them over.

Teja twirls the sprig in his fingers. "Or fresh, in salads, or moretum," he adds. "I like it; but the use in drinks was new to me."

He sips again.

Finally a complicated, named drink that was worth the bother put into its preparation.

Jack feels vindicated on behalf of his drinks choice!

...Although the other two have been sorely neglected. Sigh. He'll have to try harder next time!

"There's a great cocktail place that uses it as an ingredient in the city where I live," Jack says. "That's where I got the idea."

"What city is that?" Teja asks.

[othercaptjack]

"Cardiff," Jack says. "Twentieth-century Earth. Know it at all?"

[ostro_goth]

"I keep a motorbike in a house in Tuscany, 2010," Teja says. "But that is the twenty-first century. Of Cardiff, though, I have never heard. One would assume it is in the new lands beyond the oceans: - America?"

Jack laughs.

"Not quite. Wales. United Kingdom."

[OOC: As the mun facepalms for not knowing her own century.]

"Oh, Britannia," Teja says. "Yes, it was considered a very barbaric place in my time; but I can understand it rose in importance when the new lands were discovered. Wales is the mountains in the west of it, is it?"
