"It seemed the likely candidate."

"Point. Not many gatherings like this around here."

[seeswithhereyes]

"No, people seem to keep to themselves around here."

[numbered_doctor]

"Generally, yeah. It's a shame, though."

Beat.

"Have you been home yet?"

[seeswithhereyes]

"No, I have not," she admits. "Partially because there is no longer any place remaining that I would refer to with such a moniker, and partially because I have found my research here to be quite engaging."

[numbered_doctor]

That draws a concerned frown Thirteen, despite the casual tone.

"No home to go to?"

[seeswithhereyes]

Rose arches an eyebrow.

"Did I not tell you?"

[numbered_doctor]

"You mentioned something about fighting monsters, and playing a deadly computer game, but I guess I never really connected that your world wasn't home for you."

[seeswithhereyes]

"No, I certainly would not call it home."

[numbered_doctor]

Another frown.

"Sorry to hear it."

[seeswithhereyes]

"I am accustomed to it at this point. But thank you. Should we be victorious in the game we are trapped in, my friends and I will be able to create a new universe in which to live."

[numbered_doctor]

"Well that's certainly the bright side to things, I guess."

[seeswithhereyes]

"It is unfortunately far easier said than done."

[numbered_doctor]

"It always is, it seems," she says, still looking vaguely concerned. "Good luck."

[seeswithhereyes]

"Thank you."

[numbered_doctor]

"You're welcome."

She lays a hand on Rose's shoulder and squeezes gently.

"Hungry? We have some snacks..."

[seeswithhereyes]

"Well, I suppose I ought to eat something," Rose replies.

[numbered_doctor]

"If you're hungry, then it's probably a good idea," she says whilst pulling up a few chairs. "Otherwise I'm just forcing food on you."

[seeswithhereyes]

"I do not always realise when I am hungry," Rose admits. "Since we began playing Sburb."

[numbered_doctor]

She reaches and pulls one of the platters towards them so Rose can pick at it.

"Being busy will do that to you."

[seeswithhereyes]

"Yes, I suppose you would be well-aware of that particular vagary of the human condition."

Once there are actually snacks in front of her, of course, Rose starts eating. She is still growing, after all.

[numbered_doctor]

"Of couse," she says. "There's been plenty of times where I've been busy in the hospital and when I walk by the cafeteria and wonder why I haven't eaten all day."

"It is very easy to get caught up in things. Even just reading. It has been even more so lately."

[numbered_doctor]

"Well, I imagine fighting for your life rates a little higher on the distraction meter than reading does."

[seeswithhereyes]

"Generally, that does seem to be the effect."
