Dixie's just a little perplexed as she enters the bar. She HAD been in the middle of seducing a member of Bly's gang as a favor to Brisco. On a riverboat, with champagne, while holding a derringer under her skirts.

Her shoulder slump and she gives the bar a roll "You sure do love to surprise a gal," she mutters, heading behind the bar, her violet petticoats rustling. "Next time, why don't you throw a fella into the mix?"

"I'm sure that ain't hard with how pretty you are. Your lawman run a lot of cons?"

"Only if he needs information," she says. "He tries to get around things with logic first. He used to be a lawyer." That may explain things more clearly.

"Oh, sounds like a decent sort of lawman."

"He's real decent." That much she has to admit. "And one helluva man. We don't cross paths much, but when we do..." she smirks. "Well..."

William looks at his drink and blushes, he knows what she's talking about it sounds real nice to have someone like that. Things are moving slow but steady with Thalia,

"He must be if you like him so much."

"I more than like him," she smiles. "But he's not putting a ring on my hand and I'm not asking for it."

"Why not if you don't mind me askin'?"

He knows that it seems like modern folks do things differently but Dixie isn't from that far in the future.

She sighs. "It's as tossed up as a salad," she declares. "He's chasing a vendetta on the men who murdered his daddy, and I've got my own career. It takes me all over the country, and so does his vendetta."

"Oh, vendettas, yeah, they pull you in," He almost fell into pursuing one.

"I'm more of a gimmie-mine-and-I'll-give-you-yours gal. Fair's fair."

"Yeah, but the world ain't fair, it just is."

"That's far too true." She grimaces. "You've been through far too much for such a young boy."

"No, just been through life, it ain't that much more than other folks."

"It's plenty enough," she replies. She relates too well to William's plight.

"I guess, but it don't feel like its worth thinkin' about too often. There's too much to do."

"A busy life's a good life, honey," she declares. "It's about the only thing that keeps a guy or a gal sane some days."

[not_his_pa]

"Yeah, if you're doin' things there's less time for thinkin'."

"That's true, honey. But I wish you didn't have to work not to think."

[not_his_pa]

"I don't always just sometimes when somethin' gets me missin' Pa or things are hard."

[filemyclaim]

"No one likes that sorta thing," she sighs.

[not_his_pa]

"No, I don't mind it much for myself, but hate seein' Ma or Mark feelin' that way."

"You talk about your ma often," she remarks. "She must be a fine woman. What's she like?"

"She's pretty like you are with blonde hair and she works so hard for us. She and my Pa really loved each other, things just got hard."

[filemyclaim]

Her smile is very faint. "She does sound fine. Life can be tricky that way. Are they still together?" She's being forward, but then again Dixie is the forward type.

William goes quiet before saying,

"He was killed over a year ago. She misses him a lot and I'm tryin' to take care of her and my brother.""
