[OOMs: Night One, in which Loki plays bingo and Weyland decides to stay for a while (which is a euphemistic way of saying the story's nothing but sex and drugs), followed immediately by Loki's School for Wayward Girls, lesson one: gender and strength (no warnings there, much to Skaði's disappointment), and immediately following that: action is go]

But Pyrrha doesn't know about any of that, and she's the shape in which Loki comes down to the bar tonight. She's more subdued than usual, but you wouldn't know it to look at her--between her ridiculous boots and the crimped-and-teased-and-AquaNetted big-goth-hair she's got going on, she hits just over seven feet tall today, and that's not counting the feathers she's got stuck in her hair (that admittedly look a bit like a bird lost a fight with her hair, but she's okay with that). She's also got her usual tiny shorts, a faded Love & Rockets shirt (band not comic) and a small backpack she'd made to look like a cartoonish cute stuffed zombie doll (the zipper's in its neck).

Anyway, she does her drunken-marionette-runway-stomp up to the bar, to order herself a cherry coke slushie (with an umbrella) and a chicken sandwich with fries. She's very hungry for some reason.

Botherable.

"I can even be serious and not-speak at the same time," Teja says, gently mocking her.

"I was doing that before," she says. "At the bar, before you got there. I was very serious and very quiet. I was actually having kind of a vulnerable day, but I'm feeling a lot better now, so why shouldn't I be less than serious?"

"So, newly forged ornaments will drive away a 'vulnerable day', and unpleasant seriousness?" Teja says.

"...well, that and somebody nice to talk to," she says. "I'm a pretty simple girl, I don't need material things to make me happy--not that I say no to presents, that would be rude, but you know. My day sure got better."

[ostro_goth]

"I am honoured to be considered such," Teja says, still faintly amused.

Nice is a word that none of his people would have used in connection with him.

[scarred_grin]

"Well, you are," she says. "I know I'm a little strange and I've got things going on and all, but you don't treat me like some kind of a freak. You just treat me like a normal person, and I appreciate that."

[ostro_goth]

"You are a normal person," Teja says. "I was friends with Nobodies; compared to them, any flesh-and-blood creature is a normal person."

Even one that is an avatar of Loki, and doesn't even exist all the time.

"Well, compared to them, maybe," she says. "But there's different kinds of normal, it's relative, and for a flesh-and-blood person I may not be. I got layers, and stuff."

"This is Milliways," Teja says. "Normal here has a different meaning; and you are well within it."

[scarred_grin]

"I could be weird though," she says. "Like really weird. I could make sculptures out of people's used chewing gum, or velcro myself to the ceiling to sleep, or like... stare at things until they explode."

"None of these things are utterly unheard-of in the modern world, I take it," Teja points out.

[scarred_grin]

"Usually people who make things out of gum use their own," she says. "I don't know of anybody who does the velcro thing but there are probably people--I don't know how you'd get down, though. And making things explode just by staring at them, if there are people who can do that they're probably in some secret government program."

Although actually, under the right circumstances, Loki could do the last one.

"I know not what, exactly, velcro is," Teja says. "Other than a substance to stick things together, of some kind."

[scarred_grin]

She glances down at herself for a moment.

"I don't have any on me, but... one side's got all these tiny hooks and the other side's got a lot of tiny loops and you just press them together and they stick. You can pull them apart, too. But if you had enough of it to hold you to the ceiling while you sleep, you'd probably need somebody to get you down."

[ostro_goth]

"Unless one were to wrap oneself in some sort of complex hammock that one can loosen and unhook by oneself," Teja says. "I wonder why any would do that though -- perhaps something to do with truly dangerous vermin upon the ground, that would eat the unwary in their beds?"

[scarred_grin]

"Or if they have some kind of bat-fixation," she says. "But you can't actually sleep upside down like a bat because all the blood would go to your head and you'd die. So that doesn't really work. Maybe they live in a room with a few dozen other people and the ceiling's the only bunk space left?"

[ostro_goth]

Teja nods. "As on a ship of old," he says. "Or, perhaps, a small ship in outer space."

[scarred_grin]

"There were seven of us in my room when I was a kid," she says, "but we just had regular bunk beds. Nobody was stuck to the ceiling or anything. Have I mentioned how great it is having my own room? If I velcro myself to the ceiling it's because I want to, not because I have to."

A pause.

"I don't do that, though. I'd fall and break something."

"I know that some people safely sleep in hammocks, though," Teja says.

[scarred_grin]

"That sounds pretty nice," she says. "I couldn't do it, not full-time, I'd probably get my piercings caught in it and that would be bad. But--do you know if there's one outside here anywhere? Be nice to just... lie in one and watch the sunset over the lake or something."

[ostro_goth]

"I think I sometimes saw one by the Caribbean inlet," Teja says, "but I know not if it belonged to someone, and they took it with them when they were done."

[scarred_grin]

"You'd know better than I would," she says. "I'm not really the outdoors type. But lately I've been feeling like I should try, like spending most of my time indoors here I'm really missing out. Nature's intimidating! But at least there's not so much here that a person could get completely lost."

[ostro_goth]

"No," Teja says. "No fierce creatures unless it be the full moon; and if you wander ever out, you shall be brought back to the lake at last, as the space out there turns back in upon itself."

[scarred_grin]

"I think I should go out there, then," she says. "Not right now though--it's nice in here, and I don't think these are really wandering-the-mountains shoes. Somehow I'd end up in the lake, I just know it."

"That might be quite a surprise for the mermaid," Teja says.
