Claudia doesn't look as bad as she would have Friday morning (or afternoon, for that matter; if she'd needed a reason not to get drunk more often, that would have been it). But she's stayed in the bar all weekend anyway, and when she approaches, she still has the look of someone with a lot on her mind.
"Well, I think I'm out as far as that special goes."

"I'm sure you could still find somethin' to your liking young lady," Sallie offers jovially. "What do you usually like?"

"Mountain Dew, I think. Last thing I need is to get wasted again." After all, she needs to go home sooner or later.

There is a fridge behind the bar where the Earth sodas are kept in plastic 20 ounce bottles, and it takes Sallie a second but she finds the Mountain Dew.

"...are you sure this ain't alcoholic? Why is it so green?"

[claudiometer]

"Caffeinated, yes; alcoholic, no. I don't mix the two." That way lies badness.
"As for the color, I think they wanted it to look clear in the bottle? Or just because they felt like it."

"Fair enough. Most drinks have some sort of colorin' to them to make 'em look a certain way, anyhow."

Sallie puts the soda bottle on the bartop, with a glass alongside as more a formality than anything else.

[claudiometer]

"Thanks." She skips the glass (no point in using one, if it's a personal-size bottle).
"...I have a question for you, actually." It didn't occur to Claudia until just now, but actually, if she remembers right from back when she asked about taking over responsibility for the sound system after the apocalypse? This might be a good place to start, so far as sorting out the Caretaker stuff goes. "You have... some kind of bond thing with the Bar, right?"

Hunh. Not a whole lot of people actually ask her directly about that.

"Shi a. Yes. Why?"

Doc settles in at the counter and waits for Sallie to make it through the round of orders that precede him, and he's in no hurry so she can take as much time (or as little) as she likes.

It's obvious from his appearance (hair in need of cut, beard in need of shave, suntanned skin) that he's been out on the trail for some time prior to ending up in Milliways again. But at least he's bathed (today, even!) and is wearing freshly laundered clothes.

"Doc!" Full of surprise (more at the sight of him than actually the bathing part - even if that's nice to see too), Sallie stops in front of him, already getting out a tumbler. "What can I do you for?"

[scurlock]

He smiles broadly. "Accept my apologies for missin' the chance t'wish you a Happy Mother's Day, for starters," he replies. "And I'll have a whiskey, whichever you prefer."

"Pfft - not a requirement, you know that."

Whiskey gets poured, one for the both of them. (Admittedly, Sallie's is about half the pour of Doc's.)

"What's on in your world?"

[scurlock]

Doc watches as she pours, and then looks up at her. "I've come t'the realization that I really ain't cut out to be the sheep herdin' sort."

Maybe Sallie noticed the small flock of sheep that took up residence seemingly overnight in one of the back pastures?

"Sheep is boring anyhow," Sallie shrugs. "Tasty, though?"

[scurlock]

"That's why I've got 'em," Doc says. "I'm helpin' round up some viable stock for Ellen Park's world, now that they've got plants growin' again it's time t'start getting the folks there off'a their poor food sources and into raisin' better things to eat."

[realmrsreynolds]

"Noble occupation, sir. Workin' too hard as usual, but at least it's for other folk's good too."

[52_dropoff]

"To the best of my knowledge, I am not a father. So I guess I am not eligible." Here us a face that Sallie might recall.

Of course she does!

"Charlie! Oof com'ere -- " Sallie steps up onto a shelf to give her enough leverage to lean over Bar and peck Charlie on the cheek. "What's the news?"

He returns the kiss with a quick hug attached.

"It's good. So far. I'm alive, I'm healthy, and I am trying to move forward.

"And I sound like a TV therapist, don't I?"

"No, on account of you sounding much more truthsome."

[52_dropoff]

That gets a big smile.

"Truthsome...I like that.

"How have you been? And can I get a mineral water?"

[realmrsreynolds]

"Can do."

Normally Sallie would offer to flavor it with something, but Charlie would've asked for such things. Man of habit.

"Have you been visiting worlds at all?"

[52_dropoff]

"Not yet. But hopefully soon.

"Alyx Vance and her husband are looking for help to rebuild their civilization. I think I can help." Though he really does need to check in with Alyx.
