Milli-timed to Tuesday the 28th - New Orleans Mardi Gras

The bar room of Milliways is always full of sound - the clatter of dishes and clink of glasses, chairs being scooted back or further in, footsteps upon the floor, rats squeaking, the background murmur of conversations overlapping one another.

But tonight the main door to the bar opens to the mouth of an city alleyway, to a caucophony of noise and music, full of seething crowds and colorful parade floats, the smells of food and sweat and smoke and beer and those colorful fruity drinks sold in yard-long plastic glasses with umbrellas in them. Mardi Gras is in full swing and New Orleans has outdone itself this time.

Yrael enters, trailing laughter from a section of the crowd on the other side. His white hair is decorated with purple, gold and green feathers, his pale face partially hidden by a sharp, glittery cat mask of gold, behind which his green eyes are bright. Over his white shirt this evening he wears a shiny waistcoat of purple, gold, green, and black. It's clearly party time, big time, show time -

"And then some!" he grins, seeing Milliways. "Fat Tuesday is upon us, Milliways! Welcome to Mardi Gras! Come, dance, explore! Laissez les bons temps rouler!"

Yrael will make sure the door stays open for any party-goer who would like to partake in the joie de vivre, and the Bar can certainly provide a change of costume...

(ooc: The post will be open all weekend and into next week as needed! Usual party-thread guidelines apply! Tag in! Threadhop! Meet new people and get into trouble! :D Yrael will be around, but his mun will not be able to tag much until Monday evening. <333333)

Emcee is distracted by all the plaid.

"Oh-- oh." A smile spreads as he looks William up and down. "How wonderful you look, darling. Funny, I was just recently thinking about how your knees would look if you wore a kilt."

It is entirely possible that that conversation reminded the mun Bar of William's Halloween kilt. The magic of Mardi Gras!

"Ah, Christ," William mutters, "You're as bad as Jim." But he can't put as much heat into it as he should. Yeah, it's true, he does have suitably muscly legs. "It wasny my idea, the Bar just made me take this thing. So are you going to this party?"

Emcee blinks at the remark, his expression faltering. He knows William is joking, though, but he doesn't say anything.

Instead, he focuses on the question, which is no better as far as his expression goes. Two for two, William!

"I'm not sure," he replies.

Has William ever seen him in full makeup? Half-clothed? Covered in glitter? In fishnet stockings? Even if he had, Emcee is now hardly recognizable from that entity. An entity that would never have hesitated.

William is...tactless, at best, and dim when it comes to working out why someone is unhappy. But he's pretty good at recognizing that they are unhappy, and his (usually clumsy) instinct is to try to fix it. So he looks at Emcee with some concern. "Well...you dinny have to, of course...or you could go for a wee minute just to say you had and then duck out if you don't like it."

"I know," he sighs, glancing away from the door. "The problem isn't not liking the party. I fucking love parties. But I don't think I could enjoy myself. I would feel guilty if I enjoyed myself because of--home."

He shakes his head.

"Pay me no mind, lad, I'm just being a terrible downer." He manages a wavering smile.

The concern shifts into consternation. "Nah, you're alright. But--" Dammit, it's like talking to Jamie, people with their complex opaque inner lives that can't be tidied up with a drink and a joke. "But sometimes you have to say Fuck it and have your bit of fun while it's there, no matter what's waiting at home."

....Emcee probably already knows that, doesn't he.

Emcee's faint smile turns a bit wry, though William's attempt at cheering him up is very much appreciated. The boy hardly knows him, though, and he wonders why he's making such an effort. (He wonders why anyone does...)

"You are absolutely right, darling," he says, almost serenely.

"But you should go and have fun now. Perhaps I'll come find you later. Or perhaps you'll find me first."

"Well--all right, then. I'll see you." He shrugs, a little apologetic and a little relieved to have the concern taken off his shoulders, and trundles off to the door with just a brief backwards glance.
