First Entrance

...and then, suddenly, through one of the doors bursts a red-haired girl astride a rather enormous horse.

Merida is fortunately experienced enough to stop Angus as they slide to a stop a few inches from the bar.She pushes back a handful of curls and huffs out a relieved sigh, then gives a somewhat sheepish glance over her shoulder before standing up taller in the saddle. Dignity is not precisely an ingrained quality for her, but that's no reason not to be proud of herself.

She did stick the landing after all.

For Merida? Nah. Well...maybe. But she'd insist bravely she's not scared. "Well, bridges and roads and buildings aren't far beyond what I can ken," she says. "Someday I must go to see it all!"

[says_the_booyah]

Cy stifles a laugh. "Someday isn't your time, though. Would be really hard, if you didn't take a shortcut through here."

[boghadair]

"But if I could get here and this isn't my time...couldn't I just..." she gestures hopelessly, likely failing to get her point across.

[says_the_booyah]

"It could be really overwhelming, you know." But he suspects she's heard the call to adventure.

[boghadair]

She shakes her head at the very idea. "I'm not the sort of girl who scares easy, Cy. My dad's a warlord."

[says_the_booyah]

"Huh. So that makes you a warlord in training?" The red hair isn't the only thing that reminds him of Starfire now.

[boghadair]

She makes a face. "How I wish I were," she says. "He's a king and a warlord both, and he and mum expect me to marry."

[says_the_booyah]

Cy thinks he gets it. "Because in your time, that's what's expected of women."

[boghadair]

"Aye." she says miserably. "It's what a lady does with her time. It doesn't matter what I want."

[says_the_booyah]

"It sounds like you need to move to another time." Not that women have it as well as they ought to, but Cy is pretty sure it's a lot better in the 21st century.

[boghadair]

"...People can do that sort of thing?" Milliways being so new to her, she had no idea it was possible.

[says_the_booyah]

He pauses to consider this a bit.

"Well, I think they can, if someone lets them through to their own time. I don't know if anyone does, however."

[boghadair]

She does smile at the idea. "It's a nice thought, but I just got here. I don't think anyone would be up to me going visiting just yet."

[says_the_booyah]

"Sorry if I jumped the gun about that. It's easy to think of solutions to problems when you barely know the problem." Or the person.

[boghadair]

"Oh no, you're not jumping the gun!" Though she doesn't know what a gun is yet - they're a wee bit before her time. "I don't know who'd let me stay. Are people so kind to strangers here?"

[says_the_booyah]

"People? Maybe some. But I like to be nice when I can. What's the point of not being nice?" Heroes - well, most heroes outside of Raven - tend to be nice because it goes with being a hero.

[boghadair]

"That's something you'd have to ask my mom," she admits. "I try to be nice too." Emphasis on try. She's only human!

[says_the_booyah]

"Sounds like your mother is not happy with you," he says knowing maybe he should not wade in there.

[boghadair]

"Not at all," she says. "She's..." Merida makes a series of noises that are pretty incoherent, but definitely rage-fueled.

[says_the_booyah]

"She's a mother. And she means well. And she is going to drive you nuts. I hear that happens." And he would give anything to have his mother back in the first place.

[boghadair]

That's not what Merida wants to hear, as true as the statement is. "I just wish she'd try to see things my way," Merida says.

[says_the_booyah]

"I would be careful with wishes like that." Especially around magic bars.

[boghadair]

She raises an eyebrow. "But why? There's no harm in saying out loud, is there?"

[says_the_booyah]

"Magic is really tricky. In here, and pretty much anywhere it exists. It's like magic a living thing. And has a very strange sense of humor."

[boghadair]

She raises an eyebrow. "Now I have to know what the worst thing she's ever done to you is."
