Bulding Site II.

Asar-Suti is in the half-finished staff quarters again.

He's been conjuring things for quite a while now: wallpaper, paint, glue, doorknobs, tiles, washbasins, rolled-up carpeting, DIY floowboards, what have you, he's busy making it.

And a few cardboard packages of purportedly easy-to-build kitchen cabinets, for those of the staff who get their own small kitchens in their quarters.

He's got a tan bathtub and nice, fiddly brown-and-green mosaic tiling already secreted away, set aside for Gil's future bathroom.

The place is busy; people are bustling about, demanding more of this or that, asking each other how something works, and lending each other hands, arms and other body parts for the more arduous tasks.

The goal of finishing this weekend looks quite realistic.

*Raph thinks about Indy and Mike...getting married. He turns a mild shade of green.*

Man, I hope not. I wicked hope not. Mike's my brother, and if he's marryin' Indy, he's got some 'splainin' to do.

"Why - would you mind that? Who is Indy?"

Asar-Suti shrugs; perhaps that person is - the wrong gender? The wrong colour? The wrong sort of world they are from?

*Raph looks up, and cocks his head to one side.*

Well for one, my brother is a turtle an' Indy's human. For another, if I'm learnin'bout it at a party, an' not before hand...he's gonna get a beat down that's for damn sure.

Cuthbert hasn't exactly been listening, but. well, he's got good ears. Also, his mun figures he had to find out sometime.

So he now glances up at Raph, and blinks.

"Oh, so you're the ex-turtle?"

*Raph looks wary. I mean, after that guy reacted last night...there's no telling what this kid'll do. So Raph sizes him up, and prepares for anything. Being ninja means being able to use anything for a weapons. This includes wallpaper and glue if need be.*

Yeah. Who's askin'?

Cuthbert smiles wryly. "Cuthbert Allgood. And no, I'm not going to react all that badly. I've had some time to adjust to idea of antrhopomorphic turtles. Including former ones."

*Raph wipes a hand on the leg of his pants and offers it to Cuthbert.*

Raphael. We get all kinds o' reactions. Last night, I thought the back of this guy's head was gonna come right off.

*There's a special hand gesture that goes with Head Explodie*

"Hm...which guy would that have been?" Cuthbert asks, shaking the offered hand. "A gunslinger, by any chance? Because if I hadn't heard about it from Meg in the course of another discussion entirely, my own head might have gotten a bit explodey."

*Raph nods*

By the name of Roland. He got all...pale. Then he smiled. Creepiest thing I seen in a long time. He always like that?

Cuthbert grins suddenly. "Afraid he is, actually. It's not all that bad once you get to know him."

Heh, yeah I bet. It was like seein' Spock smile. Just wrong on many levels.

*He reaches his clean hand into one of the pockets on the leg of his cargo pants, and pulls out a picture. There are four anthropomorphic turtles and one anthropomorphic rat. They're sitting or standing around a couch. Handing the picture to Cuthbert.*

I showed him this. Wasn't sure if he was gonna shoot me or somethin'. I mean, I seen some of the things you guys fight, an' was thinkin' maybe somethin' that looked like us ate his dog or somethin'.

Cuthbert glances at the picture. He didn't know there was a rat, too. "Um. Well. I don't suppose you'd know anything about the Guardians of the Beam?"

Not unless it's Jim Beam, no.

"Well, they're, um, sort of gods in our world. One of them's a giant turtle. Another's a giant rat. The, uh...the Turtle supposedly created the universe."

"Can either of them shift shape so they'd be more compatible?"

Simple problem, simple solution.

*That very thought will give Raph nightmares for weeks to come.*

No. No they can't.

*It comes out sounding more like, No. I won't allow it.*

Well, different people are squicked by very different things.

"Well, Gil will tell me afterwards what the point of the party was, if there is going to be a point, and not just a party - but the tie thing does make you curious."

You mean you weren't invited? Man, this is kinda awkward...Just show up. Mike'll understand. He just ain't run into you yet. Heh, he knows if he comes back here we'll put him to work.

"Okay, I will do that - if he or that Indy person show up beforehand, we could get them to work here so I get to know them. Is Indy male or female, by the way?"

Well, you need to know what you are looking for, do you?

*Raph blinks.*

Indy...Indiana Jones is a guy. Fedora hat...uh...scruffy lookin'? Any of this ringin' a bell.

"Indiana?? And a man? I thought that was a place, somewhere in the wilderness of the same Earth continent that New Orleans is on, but if it's not a place, it would have to be a woman's name. But you never know with names, of course. And no, I don't remember ever noticing him."

Of course, Asar-Suti wouldn't recognise a Fedora hat if one were pulled right over his eyes.

Well, it is the name of a place.
*Raph smirks*
It's also the name of a dog, and in this case, a man. Just, you know...don't say anything to him about it. He's touchy when it comes to his name. I keep forgetting that not everyone'll know everyone here. He's sort of this hero where I'm from.

"A hero - are there stories about him?"

Asar-Suti senses a tail-end of the theory Esk and he had been entertaining, and fastens upon it.

*Raph raises an eyebrow*

There might be, yeah.

"No, tell me - what makes him a hero?"

Asar-Suti is rather persistent.
