A very cracky entrance post

omg Nita bling bling.

She enters through the lakeside door and snags a table and a soda, pulling off her grey sweatshirt to reveal a black T-shirt with the words "PLZ HELP I AM TRAPPED INNA BAR" in white on it. Hey, it's not her fault, she's getting all her clothes from the Bar. . .

She shakes her head. "Nothing yet, but as long as I'm here, I'm trying to keep some track of what happens. I think I'm one of the few wizards from my world who's spent a lot of time here."

"What, like keeping field notes?" he asks, only slightly teasing.

"Yeah," she grins. "There's a little bit in the manual about here, including the coordinates, but nothing useful for repeat visitors, like 'The Bar has a sense of humor' or 'Death doesn't work here.'"

"Or, if someone you know shows up, start worrying." He's still smiling but it's slightly brittle, and doesn't quite reach his eyes.

"I don't know about that. . ." She blinks, and tries to phrase the question tactfully. "Did. . . someone you'd rather not see show up?"

Emotionally, he pulls back a bit; he doesn't want to start laying all his problems on a teenager; he needs to seem natural. Not easy when he's stressed, but he's managed it before, and with people who know a lot more about looking for weaknesses than Nita.

"No, just the usual problems with the people that are here. I think we've all just been in too close a proximity for too long, without any break from each other," he says, careful to keep his tone light.

"Ah, gotcha. Y'know, I can't believe I haven't asked this, but -- are you Bound as well?"

"Yup, I'm completely stuck at the moment. Can't even see the door. It'd be nice to just get out of here for five minutes, but I guess the bar isn't quite willing to do that yet."

"Yeah, the lake is a poor substitute for actually getting out of here, but it's something." She smiles. "A cold something. I thought New York winters could be bad. . ."

He gives a small laugh. "I know. I thought adjusting to Washington after being in L.A. was bad. I think as soon as it gets warm enough I'm going to be out there as much as possible. Though hopefully I'll be Unbound by then."

"How long have you been stuck here?"

"About a month, now. I've been keeping track, because it's far too easy to lose track of the days in here."

She nods. "Is there sort of a generally agreed-on morning and evening? Or has everyone adjusted to the 27-hour day, and times are optional?"

He thinks for a moment. "I think it's mainly decided by when the space outside by the lake passes from day to night and back. Though that doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference to the bar itself, considering it's fairly busy at pretty much any time, and as people come here from any and all times in their own worlds... I think anyone keeping track of the 'days' or the 'time' is more based on their perception and for their own peace of mind than anything else."

"Makes sense. I wonder how the staff handle it -- y'know, when to serve breakfast or lunch."

He thinks a moment. "Well they're the bar staff, so I guess breakfast hours are whenever tehy say they are. I can imagine that they could all mess with our biological clocks if they wanted."

[ooc: Sorry! Was doing a hugely intensely breaky thread and was so focused on that everythig else kinda disappeared. Going to bed but will be on tomorrow. :-)]

She snerks. "Maybe that's what we should be worried about April first. I was talking to Kim earlier about pranks." With a melodramatic sigh -- "She wisely pointed out that there's enough trauma around here without people trying to make it happen."

He gives a slight laugh. "Yeah, I think trying to pull pranks on people might just be adding insult to injury."

She shrugs and grins. "Probably just as well. I was never any good at pranking people, anyway. Getting pranks pulled on me -- I was a champion at that."

"Well when I was a kid, I used to do it, but then CTU isn't exactly the kind of place where pulling pranks on people is exactly acceptable. What kind of pranks did people pull on you?"

She looks slightly embarrassed. "Um, the make-Nita-look-stupid-in-front-of-the-class-and-beat-her-up-at-lunch kind."

His mouth tightens. "The cruel kind, in other words." He feels an instinctive dislike toward those children he didn't even know. At least when he pulled pranks as a child it was on frinds, or on those who were definitely able to stand up for themselves.

"Yeah. . ." She shrugs. "I'm pretty much over it. I mean, it sucked, but if any of them tried anything these days, they wouldn't stand a chance."

He gives her a small smile. He felt oddly protective of her, though perhaps that wasn't so odd considering that she'd saved his life just a couple weeks before. "I'm sure you could do something interesting to anyone who tried, with your ability."

She laughs. "Technically, I'm not allowed to. But I can at least prevent myself from getting hurt."
