Lucy comes downstairs, and (after getting tea) begins to work on a list.

It is a very important list.

She does not seem to be having much luck with it.

"Are there hobbits there?"

"There are dwarves, though, and centaurs, and all sorts of other things."

He brightens. "Oh! I saw one of those once. Meg let a wizard turn her into one."

"I...imagine it would be, yes."

"Really, when your friend suddenly becomes half a horse, it's something you remember. But that's the sort of thing that happens here."

Lucy smiles a bit. "I'm starting to realize this."

"I met a witch, and an antichrist--the, I suppose--and really, it's all very interesting."

"It's an interesting place," he agrees, picking up his soupbowl. "I hope you figure out what to get for your brother."

"It was nice to meet you," he says politely, and wanders off, happy that he's managed to have a perfectly normal conversation with someone. Well, as normal as conversations get in Milliways.
