Ingress's Sixth Birthday Party

*It's eleven o'clock on Saturday morning, thanks to Millitime, and the stage is set for Ingress's birthday out by the lake. The House of Arch family has gathered around a perfect picnic spot under a tree. Right beside them is a playground Tom has conjured just for the occaision. There is a swingset, a slide, a merry go round, and a sandbox charmed with sand that's perfect for building.

Ingress is wearing a gown fit for a princess. It has been charmed against stains and ripping just for this special day. She is also wearing a blinking button which reads "I am 6!" She is very, very, very excited.

Tom, Door, Gavroche, and Megwyn are putting finishing decorating touches on the picnic tables set up with a gigantic cake, gallons of ice cream from Florean Fontescue's ice cream parlor, and punch. There is also a table with baskets of wizarding crackers. These are gifts for the guests - once the crackers are popped, the recipient will get a hat of some kind (maybe there will be a plethora of pirate hats!) and a wizarding toy or game like chess or gobstones. Or whatever else you'd like - the guest gets to decide!

There are several chairs under the tree as well, providing a good view of the playground.

"Shhhh!" Indy replies as he slinks behind a tree. "Don't draw attention to me. I'm not really here."

Lilly arches an eyebrow.

"You're surprisingly visible for someone who's not really here, Indy."

"Well, hurry up and cover me then!" he exclaims with a nervous grin.

Lilly looks at him. Up at him, actually.

"Unless I hit a sudden late-death growth spurt, I think that plan is sunk, Indy. Are you afraid of kids or something? What's the deal?"

"Not afraid... just leery when they have lots of sharp pointy things and there's a helluva lot of sugary food on offer."

Lilly looks puzzled.

"That's when kids are the most fun! Assuming they're not yours, of course."

"That's a matter of opinion, my dear. My contact in Cairo has nine kids between the ages of six and eighteen. They kinda adopted me into their family. Uncle Indy doesn't visit Sallah at home unless he really has to now."

He bites his lip.

"They're good kids though. Saved my ass once."

"Really?" Lilly asks. "I like them already, then. What happened?"

"They just kinda invaded a restaurant where I was having a discussion with a competitor of mine, and hauled me out before a dozen irritable Nazi's could fill me full of lead."

Lilly blinks, and then smiles.

"Oh yeah, I remember that one! Right before the girl got stuffed in the basket."

"Um... no. Right after I thought I'd just killed her in the truck actually." He flashes her a dry smile.

Lilly bites her lip.

"I'm sorry. I keep forgetting that it was a movie to me, and your actual life to you. Well, hey. She didn't die, and you got the girl, so it's all good, right?"

"I guess. Though we kinda fell out again afterwards. She actually used to hang around here, and things were going much better. But then I screwed it all again... as usual."

Lilly looks sympathetic.

"Break-ups are rarely ever completely one person's fault, Indy. I'm sure it wasn't just you."

"Well, we weren't exactly back together. She never could handle the amount of travel I did."

Lilly looks puzzled again.

"Why didn't she just go with you? I would have."

"That's sweet, Lilly. But I work better alone... um... and what I do is kinda dangerous at times. I didn't want to put her in harm's way."

He lifts the brim of the pink flowery hat that came out of the cracker, and scratches at his forehead.

Lilly tries not to giggle, but fails.

"Well, um... *giggle* you do look very... dangerous right now, so I guess I can see the poi- oh, hell." And she collapses into a full on gigglefit.

He gives her a disdainful glare. "It's for the kids!"

"Shouldn't you be setting up the other party or something?"

Lilly nods, still giggling.

"Yes, I should. I'll see you there. Bring the hat!"

She flees amidst the giggles.
