milliways_bar | Ingress's Sixth Birthday Party

*It's eleven o'clock on Saturday morning, thanks to Millitime, and the stage is set for Ingress's birthday out by the lake. The House of Arch family has gathered around a perfect picnic spot under a tree. Right beside them is a playground Tom has conjured just for the occaision. There is a swingset, a slide, a merry go round, and a sandbox charmed with sand that's perfect for building.

Ingress is wearing a gown fit for a princess. It has been charmed against stains and ripping just for this special day. She is also wearing a blinking button which reads "I am 6!" She is very, very, very excited.

Tom, Door, Gavroche, and Megwyn are putting finishing decorating touches on the picnic tables set up with a gigantic cake, gallons of ice cream from Florean Fontescue's ice cream parlor, and punch. There is also a table with baskets of wizarding crackers. These are gifts for the guests - once the crackers are popped, the recipient will get a hat of some kind (maybe there will be a plethora of pirate hats!) and a wizarding toy or game like chess or gobstones. Or whatever else you'd like - the guest gets to decide!

There are several chairs under the tree as well, providing a good view of the playground.

"Nothing much has changed there then," he chuckles. "You doin' ok?"

Mel smirks. "No one's ever been able to make a conviction stick yet." Then she nods.

"Yeah, I'm good. You?"

"Not too bad."

He looks down and kicks his boot into a tree root uncomfortably.

"Sorry about the other morning. I was just... a little bemused, let's say."

Mel looks at him. Then leans against the nearest tree.

"Bemused by what?" For once she's not smirking or mocking. She's a little concerned, but mostly just curious.

"Half-naked guy in the living room. You being all blase about it. And then the kid telling me that you actually set him and Mike up."

"Now, I'm not saying I can't relate. Open relationships are fine. It was just kinda sudden, and not what I was expecting when I walked out of the bedroom."

Mel blinks a lot.

"This is a culture clash thing, right? In the twentieth century, sex comes with implied connotations like 'relationship' and stuff?"

"Hardly," he snorts. "It was mostly just the whole stranger in his underwear in my living room thing. Really. I talked to Xander about it. I think we're cool now."

"It might not seem like it, but you know I try and look out for Mike, right?"

"I know," she nods. "I do, too. But really, I don't think he needs looking after there. Xander's sweet."

"Bit of a smart ass, but he seems ok, I guess."

He chuckles to himself. "Raph's gonna shit when he finds out."

"Why?"

Mel's still confused about what the whole issue is.

"You obviously don't know Raph very well. Ask Mike."

"Hmmm," she looks suspicious.

"Why do I get the feeling that this is all more complicated than it should be?"

"Isn't everything?"

"You and Mike are still... seeing each other... right? I haven't see you for a few days."

"As far as I know," Mel says. "He's been with Xander a lot recently, I guess."

He shrugs. "Okay. I like you two together. You made a nice couple."

"Not that him and Xander don't. I just don't know him too well yet."

Mel smiles. "He's my best friend, Indy. That's not going to stop if we're not having sex. He means a lot to me."

"He's pretty much my best friend here too. I guess that makes us practically related."

Mel pulls a face.

"That mean I have to start winding you up like a little sister?"

....oh, wait.

"Hey..." He thwaps her with the pink flowery hat. "Hush, or I'll make you wear this monstrosity."

Too slow, Indy. She grabs it and tries it on.

"Suits me, though, dontcha think?"

He smirks and takes a step back to admire her. "Totally. It's yours!"

"Damn. Where's Mike and his camera when I need him most."

She grins widely at him.

"Pity it's not a pirate hat, really, I'd wear it tonight."

"Heh. Right. Who're you going with?"

"Lilly. The girl organising it?"

"Oh yeah. She said. You're head harem girl, right? I expect serious pirate wenchyness from you in such an esteemed position."
