milliways_bar | Ingress's Sixth Birthday Party

*It's eleven o'clock on Saturday morning, thanks to Millitime, and the stage is set for Ingress's birthday out by the lake. The House of Arch family has gathered around a perfect picnic spot under a tree. Right beside them is a playground Tom has conjured just for the occaision. There is a swingset, a slide, a merry go round, and a sandbox charmed with sand that's perfect for building.

Ingress is wearing a gown fit for a princess. It has been charmed against stains and ripping just for this special day. She is also wearing a blinking button which reads "I am 6!" She is very, very, very excited.

Tom, Door, Gavroche, and Megwyn are putting finishing decorating touches on the picnic tables set up with a gigantic cake, gallons of ice cream from Florean Fontescue's ice cream parlor, and punch. There is also a table with baskets of wizarding crackers. These are gifts for the guests - once the crackers are popped, the recipient will get a hat of some kind (maybe there will be a plethora of pirate hats!) and a wizarding toy or game like chess or gobstones. Or whatever else you'd like - the guest gets to decide!

There are several chairs under the tree as well, providing a good view of the playground.

*She gapes at her, amazed. Then she runs into her arms and gives her a huge hug.*

I am *says Kero as she laughs and hugs Ingress back, dropping the package and picking Ingress up and swinging her around as she does so*

Tom said you might come! Kerowyn, I'm going to be like you!

Yes you are. *Kerowyn grins and thinks to herself* Blessed Agnira I hope not just like me. That would give poor Tom and Door a heart attack.

I wouldn't have missed your birthday party for all the Companions in Haven. Are you having a good time?

Yes! My friends have come and some new friends and I got presents and oh! You get a present, too!

*She brings over the basket of wizarding crackers.*

Here. Pick one with sparkies or stars and moons. They're the best.

Then I'll take one with stars and moons.
*She picks one out and looks at it, she's never seen one before.*

What does it do?

You pull it on both ends and it pops! Then a hat and a toy and lots of confetti comes out.

*Kerowyn does as she is told and pulls on both ends. She jumps a little when it pops and out comes a big, floppy green velvet hat, a small, very lifelike rabbit and lots of confetti*

*Kero takes the hat and puts it on her head.* What do you think, does it go with Herald Whites?

*She giggles*

I think it looks brilliant.

Good. *Kero suddenly remembers the package that she let drop. She picks it up*

And this is for you. *She hands Ingress the brightly wrapped box. Inside is a set of clothes very similar to what Kero is now wearing, only gray and, of course, sized to fit someone Ingress-sized*

Are these Herald kid clothes????

*She takes each piece out, looking at the clothes with utter delight.*

These are a pair of Herald Trainee grays. I raided the supply closet last night. They are what all the Heralds-in-training wear. I thought you could wear them when you practice.

*She grins pleased, with Ingress' obvious delight.*

I can't wait for my next sword fighting lesson.

*She hugs the grays to her tightly*

Thank you, Kerowyn. Now I'll be all ready for when I'm big enough for school.

*She eyes Ingress* Although I do hope that by the time you are ready for school, you'll be ready for a bigger pair. *she grins and winks*

Kerowyn, what's it like to be a Herald? Megwyn's told me a lot, but she's a companion and not a Herald.

*Ingress doesn't know that Megwyn used to be one herself*

It is...*she pauses and tries to think of the right words* An honor.
And it's hard, sometimes. Heralds do things that aren't always easy. But we know that the people of Valdemar need us. We can do things they can't, so we have to help them.

But we have fun too. We throw parties when we can and we play games with each other. Heralds tend to see each other as family.

*She stops and smiles* Does this make any sense?

Uh huh. Eddie and I talk about that sometimes. About how it's hard, but you can still have funand tell stories. He's a gunslinger. He fights bad guys too.

He sounds like he very wise.

Fighting bad guys, that's what we do. Someone has to keep the people safe and that's our job.

Now young lady, *Kero looks very serious. She's being Herald-Captain now*
this is a party. I see birthday cake and ice cream and all sorts of fun things to do. *She smiles* We can talk about serious things another time, I promise. But today is a day for silliness. And cake!

Okay! Come on. Let's go have some!
