Hagrid's come into the bar for a bite to eat, and a cold tankard of beer. He's in a cheerful mood today, as usual.

And still looking for people to try out his pumpkin boats out on the lake. Any takers?

"Hallo, Hagrid," Caspian says, smiling up at him. "It's going quite well, thanks. I should be able to start on the hull this week. How are things with you?"

Poor, unawares Caspian.

Poor, poor Caspian!

"Things're good! Talkin' ter yeh about boats got me ter thinkin' actually. I made a small boat o' me own, but I'm too big ter take it out on the lake. Bin lookin fer volunteers, actually..."

"Really?" Caspian looks interested. Run, Caspian, run while you still can!

"What did you make it out of?"

Caspian can't run faster than Hagrid! Mwahahaha!

"Pumpkin."

He's not kidding.

"...Pumpkin?"

Caspian raises his eyebrows. "You made a boat out of a pumpkin?"

“That’s right! Half a pumpkin, actually. Should be plenty o’ room ter sit a full grown man in – an’ I got oars!”

That'll convince him!

Caspian's mouth moves, but nothing comes out. A wild image of Reepicheep's coracle replaced by a pumpkin floats in front of his eyes.

"Well...well. That's very...creative of you," he offers weakly.

[ooc: Must go soon for a bit, but am willing to slowtime if you are!]

"I thought so!" Hagrid beams. "Volunteers don't seem ter be too thick on the ground, though... most folk keep tellin' me they don' know how ter swim."

"Well, that's no good," Caspian tells him, smiling. It's just possible he knows what he's getting himself into. "You certainly need someone who knows how to swim."

[ooc: Cool! Will stick around till I leave, then tag whatever you post when I get back.

"I figure, if yer buildin' a boat, and yeh said yeh used ter live near th' sea - you must know how," Hagrid says.

Isn't he clever, using logic like that?

"Yes, I certainly can swim." His mouth quirks slightly. "I don't suppose you'd like me to test one out for you, then?"

If he isn't being pulled out of his seat and towards the lake by the end of that sentence, he'll be very surprised indeed.

NO surprise, then, except maybe that Hagrid didn't just pick him up and carry him out.

"That'd be grand!" he propels Caspian along with him out the back door, where there are several oars and pumpkin boats, oviously the shells of absolutely huge pumpkins. "I'll take a boat, an' yeh kin grab the oars!"

"Alright, Hagrid," Caspian laughs. He picks up a couple of oars and ~~wonders what on earth he has gotten himself into~~ heads to the lake.

Hagrid strides down to the lake with a sping in his step, and sets the half-pumkin 'boat' down on the shore.

"Any ~~last prayers~~ adjustments yeh'd like ter make before yeh try it, or should we just send yeh out on th' water and see what happens first?"

"Just send me on out, Hagrid," Caspian says decisively, his mouth quirking into a half-grin.

"What, exactly, is it that you're looking for here?"

"Oh," Hagrid says as he holds the boat steady for Caspian as he climbs in. He pushes it out into the water and holds onto the boat while he hands Caspian the oars. "Jus' ter see if it'll float, see if it'll flip over... the usual!"

Hagrid grins and gently pushes the boat out before Caspian can change his mind.

"Yer a sailor - yeh'll do fine!"

"Comforting. Very comforting." His tone is dry, but he's laughing. The makeshift boat dips and sways alarmingly for a moment, but once Caspian has his balance, it settles into the water. All in all, the effect was much the same as Reepicheep's little coracle. Shifting his weight gingerly, Caspian let both oar blades into the water and pulled.

Hagrid bites his lip at the littke boat bobbles a bit in the water, then breathes a sigh of relief as it seems to settle. Caspian sets the oars into the lake, and Hagrid says to himself, "I sure hope it don't flip over, or summat."

Caspian sure hopes so, too, but at the moment he seems to be doing just fine and enjoying himself. The pull of the oars and the bob of the ~~pumpkin~~ boat feel good after such a long time land-bound.

However, it is very hot out, and the water looks fairly inviting...

Caspian glances back at shore, wondering what Hagrid would think if he just flipped over.

Hagrid watches fromt he shore, and sees the slightly impish look in Caspian's eye. He knows that look - he's seen it in many of his students, just before they get up to mischief.

Before he can call out to ask Caspian what he's up to, the boat tips alarmingly...

and suddenly the boat is empty!

The lake water was different from the clear ocean water off Cair Paravel, but it was cool and clean and Caspian loves it. He pops up next to the boat, shaking water out of his hair like a wet dog, and grinning like an idiot.

"Might want to work on that balance, there, Hagrid," he calls out, laughing.

Hagrid breaths a sigh of relief, then begins to laugh as well.

"Scares the heck outta me, Caspian," he calls over the water.

The boat his rocking slightly in the water, but otherwise looks fine.

"They did tell yeh about the giant squid, din't they?"

Caspian raises an eyebrow. "Now that you mention it..."

Blaise had said something about a squid, hadn't he?

Hagrid holds back a chuckle - he wasn't sure if Caspian would know that the giant squid had apparently been abducted.

"Mr. Julia Fruitnugget," Hagrid says with a cheerful nod. "Yeh probably don' have much ter worry about."

"That is extremely comforting," he calls back, treading water with an amused expression on his face. "What a way you have for making me feel better, Hagrid."

He can, he figures, take on a giant squid if he needs to, so he spends a few more minutes happily diving and splashing around before climbing back into the punkin shell and rowing back towards shore.
