River.

Booth. Back against the wall, one leg tucked under her and one knee pulled to her chest. Watching the room. What she sees in it is, as usual, an open question.

The sullen look of a teenager who's not in a particularly good mood, layered with River's tendency to be distracted by empty air.

Because River is never contrary. Yes.

Only sometimes.

And it's almost always more interesting.

River's face lightens a little.

In another mood, it would be an impish smile. The kind that says Yep, I know something about that. She's not in another mood, so it's not. But it's a faint shadow of one.

*Adam notices. Possibly. Most likely. But keeps talking, because, as has been mentioned, he tends to do that.*

Sometimes people need to be argued with. Challenged.

*Not that they like it. Not that Adam likes it. In fact, he's pretty well a hypocrite, there.*

Eyebrow.

As some of River's grumpiness stems from a conversation involving that, the sour mood is back.

Flatly, "You're providing a public service."

*A wry smile.*

Or a public nuisance. But, yeah. I take it you don't approve.

"Doesn't matter."

[last_adam]

Says who? You?

[river_meimei]

Sullen!

Look. You might be a wunderkind and all, but that doesn't mean you get last say in everything. Maybe it matters to somebody.

River looks away.

"You're twisting the words." Irritated.

[last_adam]

Then tell me how they're supposed to go.

Silence.

Then, flatly, "Not my job."

[last_adam]

*Adam almost opens his mouth to say "then whose job is it?" but he suspects he knows the answer to that one.*

I'm just calling them as I see them.

"Okay."

So who was it that challenged you?

[river_meimei]

Flatly, "Nobody."

River may or may not be telling the truth.

Lies.

*Adam knows what he believes.*

Flat, annoyed stare.

That's what I thought.

*Adam moves to stand.*

River doesn't stop him.
