There's a Darien at the bar, sipping on coffee that's more sugar and milk with some coffee than the other way around. He's also munching on a breakfast sandwich of some sort.

He's edging on needing to go home, but he's got a couple more days till he has to head out and he intends to enjoy them.

There's a vampire sliding onto the seat beside him, looking flushed.

"Well, long time no see."

He blinks and nods.

"Yeah, haven't seen you around. How you been, man?"

He shrugs, and it's anything but nonchalant.

"A little tied up, if I'm honest, but I survive. And yourself?"

That gets a blink.

"Something wrong, man?"

That gets a blink in reply.

"God, no!"

He smiles.

"I mean, a little tied up," he coughs, "in the good sense."

He grins.

"In the fluffy handcuffs sense?"

"Well, they weren't fluffy," he muses. "But the same sense, yes."

He smiles.

"So anyway, how have you been?"

"Good."

He leans on the counter.

"Very very good."

He quirks his head.

"Oh?"

He nods.

"Yeah. Kinda...met someone."

He chuckles before taking another sip of coffee.

"Life's still shit outside of this place, but he makes it a little nice while I'm here. Well, more than a little."

He orders a Whisky, pays for it, and takes a sip.

"What's his or her name?" he asks, eyebrow quirked. "Anything that makes a shit thing better for one of my friends is a good thing indeed."

"Charlie Pace."

And it's said with a smile.

"Said he knew me back when I was here before...or after...or whenever. Anyway, we kinda clicked and then he told me I was leaving and I didn't take it too well and he decided to stay. Things got, uh, interesting after that."

His eyes dance.

"Knowing Charlie, I have no reason to doubt that in the slightest."

He takes another sip from his glass.

"Charlie's one of my best friends here. And... unfortunately I've obviously not seen him for a while otherwise I'd have known all about this."

He raises an eyebrow at David.

"Well, it's not like I'm screaming it from the rooftops either."

But his smile does.

"Oh, we've done enough screaming at one another," and David's smile says he doesn't just mean the good kind of screaming.

"But I'm glad. Charlie deserves someone good, and so do you."

He raises an eyebrow.

"You sure you knew me?"

He chokes.

"I meant Charlie and I."

"And what's that supposed to mean?"

"Just that we've yelled enough things at one another to not need to do much yelling anymore. I'd like to think that he'd have told me if I'd been here."

"I just meant that if you knew me, I don't know how you can say he deserves me."

It's a chuckle, but a sad one.

"I'm a wreck, man."

"Oh. You're a good guy, underneath, you know, the..."

How to phrase it, how to phrase it.

"Everything."

Good going, David.

"You're not a wreck, Darien."

That just gets a snort and an eyebrow raise.

"Believe me. I'd know if you were."

"Been spying on me, Dave?"

He shakes his head.

"Scout's promise, I'm not a stalker."
