Toga Party

Atop a long table in one corner of the bar sits a row of punch bowls containing ladles and various cocktails: from margarita to plain screwdriver. These are accompanied by several bowls of ice, some containing various bottles of beer. There are stacks of plastic glasses, paper plates, napkins, and a large pile of ivy wreaths at one end. The drinks are buffet-style at this party, so help yourself.

There are plates scattered over the residual tables in the area, some overflowing with huge bunches of grapes, others containing savory fare such as chicken legs, hunks of bread, olives, cheese or humus dips.

To try and give an impromptu impression of a Roman/Greco theme, the tables have been topped with white tablecloths and chairs and surfaces strewn with ivy. If there had been a way to fashion columns or import colonnades in twenty four hours, Indy would have tried it. But ivy will have to do on short notice. At least its not poisonous.

"Hopefully it put an end to the enemy. But Tim hasn't been back to check yet."

"Ace says London's fixed, though," she points out. "Whether that means he's completely gone, I dunno."

"We'll soon find out, I guess." He chugs down the rest of that glass and scoops the cup through the mixture this time, neglecting the ladle. "I'd rather not go through all that again though, as I'm sure would be general sentiment around here, except in the more masochistic of us."

Mel gives a half shrug, and looks a little sheepish. "I guess," she says, eventually. "Bullets aren't really much fun."

"What'd you come up against out there?" he asks idly, maybe gazing a little too long at an area that's not her face. Only maybe...

"Giant stone knight on horse thing," she says, casually. "That was kinda, fun, actually, riding the lance like a pony. When we brought that down, the Other turned up with guns. I was stupid enough to attack him with my scythe, got four bullets at point-blank range." She shrugs. The toga moves appropriately.

Indy is distracted by the silky material as it shifts. He probably needs a poke.

Mel takes advantage of the lull in conversation to chug Tequila.

"So, Mike says you had a giant snake?"

"Had?" He glances down. Damn the air conditioning in here.

Deadpan: "S'what Mikey said," she shrugs. "Isn't that why he's having so much trouble walking?"

"Oh that..." he says with a look of relief. "No. He's hobbling because of the dead snakemen that took him in an unnatural position."

She nods. "Apparently one swallowed him."

Innuendo is the only way of getting information out of Dr. Jones, it seems.

"After they'd reconsituted into the huge one, yeah. Swallowed every last inch of him..."

He shakes his head sadly. "I coulda helped out, but I have this irrational fear. Even regular-sized ones really freak me out."

Mel gives a sympathetic smile. "Yeah, I used to be terrified of vampires for a long time. Took me a whiel to work that one out."

Indy bobs his head in agreement. "It hasn't been so bad since I sent 10,000 volts into that huge one though. I feel pretty neutral about them now."

He fails to mention his beserker moment with the last snakeman. That possibly helped, or maybe it's something else...

"Yeah, that helps," she confirms. "I worked mine out by killing a lot of the things."

"I thought I'd fried Snakebait as well though. I mean... how can you survive being swallowed by a giant snake?"

She shakes her head in an implied shrug. "Not a clue. When I was eaten by a snake, I was very careful not to get swallowed."

"This one was five stories long," he points out. "Not sure he had much of a choice."

"Mine," Mel says, "Was a couple of stories wide. About a thousand feet long."

"La-de-da."

"I rescued a dragon once."

"From an evil princess?"

"From the Japanese army actually. They found it frozen in the Himalayas."

"Ah, right."

beat.

"But did it eatcha?"

"No... I tamed it."

That's surely more impressive.
