Billy is curled in his usual spot by the fire -- he's been here long enough to have a usual spot -- and brooding over physics. Well, looking frustrated over physics and brooding between problems. He's a good multitasker.

Except apparently not, because sometime around problem thirty he chunks the book down with a clatter and makes a loud, frustrated noise. "I'm never going to use this anyway!"

"Homework?" Note the sympathetic tone.

"Homework," Billy agrees, sadly. "Useless homework. Hi."

"Is it math?" Arnold doesn't usually mind math, but he's currently on times tables and they're tedious.

BILLY ALMOST CURSES IN THE PRESENCE OF A CHILD. BILLY GETS CONFUSED AND HURTS HIMSELF.

Those are the sounds of a frustrated boyfriend.

Teddy sneaks over and wraps his hands around Billy's shoulders, massaging the neck with his thumbs.

Eventually, Billy might notice a sticker (http://pics.livejournal.com/rt_5478/pic/0000bk2w.png) on Teddy's chest. When, ya know. He isn't being pampered.

Mm, too busy being pampered right now. "See how good I am? Look, I'm reviewing physics."

Really Teddy, that deserves some sort of reward.

"I know. I'm proud," he says with a beam. "This is part of your reward. Now scootch so I can reach better."

Billy scootches obediently. As Teddy's shifting he notices the sticker and raises an eyebrow. "--What's that?"

"It's for National Coming Out Day. Not like I wasn't out already, but it's true, and it's a rainbow sticker," he explains as he sits behind Billy and works on the knots in his neck. "The guy there said to send you over sometime."

Billy waves a hand. "I don't need a sticker. I've never been in the closet in my life." Billy leans into the massage. "I dunno, I kind of think the whole thing is a little lame."

"But I liked the sticker," Teddy says in a sadvoice as he rubs harder. "People put me in closets. I was never there myself. And some people don't have the luxuries we have. Like in the South? I've heard gay kids get beaten, or worse. It's a big deal for some people, I guess. It's cheapening it a little by bringing it to Milliways, but I dunno."

"It's a nice sticker," Billy allows, because clearly they are six. "I guess I know that. But I dunno. It's Milliways, right? What's the point?"

"Not if you don't ever want to continue with your education past high school, perhaps." Mutters the hooded Zexion as he reaches down to pick up the thrown book and page through it.

"If I ever get to graduate," Billy mutters right back. "And I meant in the real world."

"Your world doesn't run on physics? Why then would they teach it?" Zexion asks. He doesn't sound distracted as he reads, he's used to dividing his attention.

"Well, yeah, it runs on physics, but I don't need to stop and work out vectors before I walk in a straight line." Billy waves his hand in the air. "And even in college, I hope the math doesn't get too advanced."

"What, you would rather remain an ignorant window-dressing on civilization like most of humanity?" Zexion asks, voice quiet but none the less cutting. "With what you are capable of, knowledge of physics would do you well. You must know the rules that you are breaking if you wish to do so in the most efficient way possible. Also you got question ten wrong."

"No, I would rather get a law degree and do something useful to society." Billy scowls and looks down at the problem in question. Grudgingly: "--Oh, you're right. Thank you."

"Law," Zexion states with disdain, "much like sociology, is only useful if there is a society for it to pertain to. Law fluctuates and changes and is at its core based on perspective. Physics on the other hand is closer to mathematics and is a pure science. It is the study of the nature of the universe and how we relate to it, and is always relevant."

This would be where anyone else would give a double-snap.

"I remember sayin' that, once."

"Yeah?" Billy looks up from his glaring at the physics book. "How'd that work out?"
