Agent K is at the bar, enjoying a glass of Eli Lockhart's finest bourbon, and minding his own business until somebody decides to help him mind it.

[And unless he gets Milli-timed into this disaster in the making.]

Sameth is experimenting with batteries and magic, his little section of the counter has lots of sparks around it.

He's acquiring some interesting new burns as he figures out how to trap electricity, some of the sparks escape and one zaps K.

Fortunately, K is always well-grounded. But he's also curious, seeing as how he has a good idea of what Sameth is capable of.

"What've got going there, Tiger? New line of research?"

"Oh, hello, yes, I'm working on a project with batteries and electricity."

"You don't say," K replies, and slips off his chair to stroll over to Sameth's. "This a military application or pure research?"

[makesthings]

"A commission though it might end up being useful in the Old Kingdom."

[k_in_black]

"I didn't think they went in for that kind of thing. You getting them to be a little more open-minded about it?"

[makesthings]

"I need to get electricity and the Charter to work together first. The commission isn't going to involve the Charter as its for someone from here."

It's not like Doc has an outright sense for when someone is drinking good bourbon, but it just so happens that when he comes in from another long afternoon working out near the stables, he stops by the bar for a drink and orders a glass of Woodford Reserve, on the rocks - spitting rain and sleet be dammed, ice is still a novelty to a man from 1884, and he'll take it when he can get it.

Thankfully for Agent K, Doc doesn't smell too much like a barn. Most of the work today was on mending a busted stall door - he'll have to get in touch with Teja to order a new latch.

K was a Texan, born and bred, back in the day. And he knows what a Balgrazian Razorworm smells like. From the inside. (Long story.) So he could probably handle even what Milliways stables can dish out.

But he's grateful, just the same.

"Evening, Doc. How long's it been?"

[scurlock]

"Shit, K," Doc shakes his head. "Too long. I couldn't tell you. It's a sight for sore eyes to see your sorry face, though."

He hops up onto the stool next to the Agent, his glass carefully placed on the counter.

"Bar's been strange with my door and the timeline lately again."

"Sorry to hear it," K replies and means it.

"Been missing time altogether, or has it got you bouncing back-and-forth? I have heard some tales around here."

[scurlock]

"Just some gaps," Doc says. "I was out in my world for a handful of months without access to the bar - I think it was longer in here than in the territories, which is a bit unusual. It's often the other way 'round, but I'm not ever going t'count on Milliways operating on any sort of logical timetable."

[k_in_black]

"Smart man," K says, taking another drink.

"Zed and I were out of here a while ourselves. Door started opening again only a month or two ago. Damned if I could tell you why it stopped or why it started again, though."

A curly-haired cowboy plops gracelessly into a seat next to him.

"Haven't seen you in a while," Jim says.

[k_in_black]

"Jim," K nods with the trace of a smile (a grin, by his standards).

"How's the world been treating you?"

[waco_jim]

"Eh, there's been some ups and some downs," Jim says. "How about you?"

[k_in_black]

"Well, it's been quiet."

He takes a long drink and sits his glass back down on the bar.

"And that never lasts long where I come from."

[waco_jim]

"I imagine it wouldn't," Jim says.

"For me, there's been a few odd goings-on here and there. Door took me somewhere I didn't mean to go. Almost didn't make it back."

K pats Bar. "Darlin', would you please get this man a drink? I think he might just have a fine story to tell."

"Well well well. Lookie what we got here."

The barstool to K's left is now occupied by a Shang ninja ex-turtle.

"Raph! Who the hell let you in here?"

"Beat the crap out of any Foot lately?"

"Only my own," he says patting Bar and receiving a beer for his troubles.

"Ain't no Foot in Tortall."

K smirks. "I don't suppose Ms. Abigail would have it any other way. The Foot don't know how lucky they are."

"Nope, she most certainly wouldn't. Kinda particular that way, not that I'm complainin'."

What Abigail wants, Abigail gets.

"How 'bout yourself, keepin' your nose clean?"

"It's been quiet."

"And that--," he shakes his head. "That's rarely a good thing."
