Some time after this sign goes up, Guppy settles down at the bar, with the List, trying to work out who is still here.

They haven't checked it for a while, he notes, looking at some of the names.

"Definitely. It's all forward from here, for us, and she can have the life she deserves."

"Is she going to move into London Below, with you?"

"I don't know. I'd like her to, but I think she wants to make something for herself, without leaning on anybody."

"I guess she could go anywhere now..."

"Anywhere in the whole multiverse", he agrees. "It just depends who she meets."

"How old is she now?"

"18... 19, maybe. We didn't keep good track of birthdays in our family, not by then."

"Huh, I thought she was younger. Must be me getting older..."

"She might be as young as sixteen", he says with a shrug.

"How many years older than you is she meant to be?"

"Seven or eight. It's stranger for her than me, I think."

"I bet. It's hard enough explaining to Coral that she's always two and three quarter years older than Brooke..."

"She wants to be more older than that?"

"No, she just asks questions like 'Will Brooke get older than me?'"

Beat.

"I think she's confused because Brooke might get taller than her."

"Ah, yeah." He grins. "'Ponine's never going to have that problem."

"Fran and I looked at the growth charts - if they both continue at the same rate, with Brooke on the 98th centile and Coral on the 4th, Brooke could actually overtake Coral in height in the next couple of years. But we're kind of hoping Coral's going to gain a bit."

"Maybe. If she doesn't, though, it's not the end of the world."

"Oh yeah. I mean, I think she's always going to be petite. She was premature because she'd stopped growing in the womb, so she started off small, and Fran's not that big. Fry and Brooke got the tall genes off me I guess."

Not that Guppy looks all that tall. His posture tends to occupy less space for his height.

"I'll teach her how good little people've got it, if you want", he says with a grin.

"I think she'd like that, she sometimes gets a little shy about being the smallest." Guppy says. "At least now we can get school uniform in her size rather than having to have it made for her like we did when she first started."

"See, there's one benefit already. And there's lots of others, when you grow up used to it."

"Yeah, that and she can wiggle through loads of little holes in adventure playgrounds."

"...that one, I never tried. Except the whole of Paris was my adventure playground."

"I guess that could be a fun place to grow up. Apart from the war."

"It wasn't really a war. It was a revolution, and it didn't last long."
