First Entrance

...and then, suddenly, through one of the doors bursts a red-haired girl astride a rather enormous horse.

Merida is fortunately experienced enough to stop Angus as they slide to a stop a few inches from the bar.She pushes back a handful of curls and huffs out a relieved sigh, then gives a somewhat sheepish glance over her shoulder before standing up taller in the saddle. Dignity is not precisely an ingrained quality for her, but that's no reason not to be proud of herself.

She did stick the landing after all.

"Imagine how it feels to be me," she says, somewhat amused.

[says_the_booyah]

Before long, Cy's led horse and rider outside. Now if only he could remember where the stable is.

"Confused. I remember my first time here." Years ago!!

[boghadair]

"...Well, I suppose you do then," she says ruefully. "Does anyone ever get used to it? Is it easier for you now?"

[says_the_booyah]

"It's almost second nature." Well, except when the door just pops up.

[boghadair]

"It'll be interesting to get used to," she admits. "And a bit of a break!"

Life back home isn't exactly the most adventuresome after all.

[says_the_booyah]

"What are you taking a break from? School?" He doesn't think that is likely for some reason.

[boghadair]

"More like my mom," she says. "She thinks it's very important I become a lady. And I...don't," says Merida simply.

[says_the_booyah]

"A lady? Like in all prim and proper and buttoned up and buttoned down?

"That's no kind of fun at all." And is also pretty antiquated in his time.

[boghadair]

"Oh, prim and proper and careful. No elbows on the table! No slouching! A princess," and here she effects her mother's voice in a way that may be ever so slightly mocking, her voice turning flat and strident, "must never shove, must always remember her lessons, and must never burp at the table."

She sighs, her posture loosening. And burps for good measure, without meaning to be rude.

[says_the_booyah]

Cy cracks up. It takes a minute for him to regain his composure.

"I think you better never invite me and my bud BB to your table, then."

[boghadair]

That does make her laugh back, tugging lightly on Angus' reigns in the process.

"Do you follow my father's policy then? Better out than in?" Elinor does not and tries desperately to keep Fergus' children from following his example in this department. "I think we'd have a fine time were we in your...world, I think?" she says.

[says_the_booyah]

"I suppose it depends on what you make of my world, my time. But you'd be welcome at the Tower. As long as you leave the horse outside." Because BB gets jealous.

[boghadair]

"It sounds like it'd be a grand time. I wonder what you'd make of my world. It's beautiful - very green - lots of trees and good food."

[says_the_booyah]

"The food I could get behind. The trees...I've been a city kid my whole life." Titans camping trips were never for him.

[boghadair]

"And cities don't have trees at all?" An unfathomable notion to someone from roughly the 1200's.

[says_the_booyah]

"Cities have trees, and parks, and green spaces. But we don't have is forests. And I am not a forest kid, except maybe when I come here." The forest here is...okay, for a while.

[boghadair]

"Sounds like a wee version of my dad's lands," she says. "And people can ride and cook and everything there, I'm guessing. But the cities and towns are different?"

[says_the_booyah]

"The cities are buildings and roads and parks and ports and bridges and lots of fun things, and lot of not such fun things, and it's kind of awesome. And it might be overwhelming for some." For her.

"The towns...some are just smaller cities. Some are more like what you know, only without castles."

[boghadair]

For Merida? Nah. Well...maybe. But she'd insist bravely she's not scared. "Well, bridges and roads and buildings aren't far beyond what I can ken," she says. "Someday I must go to see it all!"

[says_the_booyah]

Cy stifles a laugh. "Someday isn't your time, though. Would be really hard, if you didn't take a shortcut through here."

[boghadair]

"But if I could get here and this isn't my time...couldn't I just..." she gestures hopelessly, likely failing to get her point across.

[says_the_booyah]

"It could be really overwhelming, you know." But he suspects she's heard the call to adventure.

[boghadair]

She shakes her head at the very idea. "I'm not the sort of girl who scares easy, Cy. My dad's a warlord."

[says_the_booyah]

"Huh. So that makes you a warlord in training?" The red hair isn't the only thing that reminds him of Starfire now.

[boghadair]

She makes a face. "How I wish I were," she says. "He's a king and a warlord both, and he and mum expect me to marry."
