(no subject)

Faith is curled up on one of the sofas in front of the fireplace, coffee cup in hand and a pensieve expression on her face.

Yeah, Faith's thinking. No it doesn't hurt.

"How strange."

He blinks up at her, lips quirked,

"We don't have anything like that at home either."

Which statement probably gets odd looks from passersby.

"Panda?"

Point. He looks at the animals with wonder tinged with pain.

Wonder because he's never seen most of these things.

Pain because on his world things run free.

"It is beautiful."

He ignores the signs saying "don't put hand over railing" and does so. The panda doesn't come close, but the prince can't resist the motion.

"Sithaer."

He looks at her, the pain worse,

"This is why the Fellowship had to limit human development, you know. On Paravia, which is the only continent the Paravians would allow us to settle on."

"Laws? No, Jiask. We can develop our magics, but not our science."

He leans on the railing and looks up at her,

"There will never be cars on Athera. There will never be towers like this New York. The planet that humanity came from, in my universe, died. We were lost, wandering the stars. The Fellowship...the same Fellowship as now...was drawn to Athera by magics; they were needed to stop the Khadrim from destroying the world as much as humans had.

Because they helped, they were allowed to bring their people to Athera, but the sciences were denied us. For a time those who studied the forbidden were sent to a splinter world...and from that came Desh-theire, which I was born to fight.

Now they take even the memory of what was thought from those who seek to study what should not be recreated."

His voice is matter of fact.

He returns the half-embrace, and then straightens up again. A last look at the panda, then up at her,

"I think I am ready to return. You world is overwhelming, beautiful in many ways, but overwhelming."

"Let us save it for when we return for my suit."

He says with a smile for her,

"Parceling out joys is often best."

He's got quite a bit to think of, but still keeps his eyes open for...

that. A gentle tug on her sleeve,

"Jiask? Can we look in the swords shop, there?"

[identity profile] prince-arithon.livejournal.com 2005-07-15 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
"I've never been shopping with you."

He points out, and performs something that is half-way between a turn and a dance-step to put them on a path into the building.

Its a good shop, clean, smelling of the oils which keep swords protected, and with everything set out so that it can be easily seen.

Arithon corners the proprietor, and starts setting out his requirements. He's got several different sets of them, and may entertain Faith by testing weight and balance on five or six before choosing a fine rapier, and short-sword of light weight.

"Jiask? Would you be so kind as to test these?"

There (http://jodysamson.com/images/News/jnews1-10-04/spatha1.jpg) are (http://www.odinblades.com/Swords2k/SpathaX.jpg) three (http://www.armillum.com/Fotitis/Spatha2002-grande.jpg) of the ones he wants her to pick from, all about 3 feet long, with the same general build.

The proprietor may be aghast, but Arithon has...faith...in her.

"Do let me know which you like best, Jiask."

And he starts counting out money for the other two. He can get reimbursed for Ingress', he's certain. She needs to start learning with something metal.

So money is counted out for that one, as well, and Arithon takes the resulting packages with a quiet compliment to the owner of the store.

"When we get back,"

He mentions as they leave,

"I will put a ward on it for you. What would you like it to be able to do?"
