Bernard blinks rapidly.

"Forty years?"

Yeh.

*He glances at the door.*

The good news is at the end of it, she gets a time machine. So she can come back at any time. But shes not back yet, which is why I'm worrying.

"Golly."

He's gobsmacked.

"I didn't know humans could be Time Lords."

Niether did I.

*Tims pretty startle too. But then again, he's also mighty proud.*

But if any human can do it, it's her.

"Golly. So, what'll she do, run off to kill daleks?"

*Tim shrugs.*

I suppose she'll do whatever Timelords do. Prevent people from screwing with the time... oooh.

*Tim winces*

I really hope she doesn't have to cover my universe.

"Is it bad?"

Well, no more along the lines that, uhm, well...

*He rubs the back of his head.*

By coming here I shattered my own timeline of what was supposed to happen. So every now and then, I have to go back and change things myself. Like I just did to save my mother from dying.

He coughs.

"Ah. So did I, in fact. But I don't tend to go back."

*Tim blinks, then shudders.*

Could you imagine if the Timelords had to enforce here? Cause so many people broke out...

"We're out of their jurisdiction."

*He ponders a moment, watching the door. Bernard seems ina good mood. It's been a couple of months. Is now a good time to approach him about re-instatement?*

Have you seen Bigby lately?

"No, I haven't."

*Tim frowns.*

Haven't seen him since I went in, actually.

"Well."

A flat look.

"I'm sure I'll be seeing him soon enough."

*Deep breath, time to stop beating around the bush.*

Bernard... what do I have to do to get back on security?

Bernard. Just. Stops.

"What makes you think you can?"

*Tim freezes up. He always thought... It was always in his mind that he could... Oh, god.*

I just thought...if I proved myself... I....oh.

"I have a problem, Tim. And it's not just me."

He sighs.

"I don't trust you. But that's nothing to the fact that the Security team knows what happened." A glance over at him. "Not all of them trust you either. And I don't like the idea of making them work with or for a man they have trouble trusting."

*Tim frowns.*

Thats ...odd. I've talked with most of them, and they've all said they still trust me.

*Tim rubs his temple.*

Bernard... What can I do? Tell me and I'll do it. I did one thing. I gave this bar my devotion, my power, everything I could to make it better. And I mess up once, and I'm forever condemned?

"Do you always speak the truth to people you don't trust, Tim?"

And if Bernard's more worried about the gunslingers than others, well. That's his prerogative.

"Well, Tim. I'm tempted to tell you that that's how life is. How many chances do we get here? Some might argue that you've had enough."

He sighs.

"Tell you what. I'll hire you as a Security consultant. But I want to keep Alanna on, even after Bigby's gone. She'll share the position with someone who's a little more permanent. She's done a fucking fantastic job, and she deserves to keep the position."

Well of course she does.

*Tim pauses, eyeing Bernard.*

No, but I know the people on Security. And some of them did say they were nervous, but understood I'd done my time.

*Tim? Has met maybe two gunslingers. Maybe. So it's really weird they have such hatred for him.*

Did you have someone in mind for more permanent?

No one hates Tim. There's some discomfort at the idea of working for him, is all.

"Not sure, yet. Co-Chief of Security is a big position. Likely I'll approach a few veterans, see how they feel about it. Cuthbert Allgood is a steady sort of person, though. Very even-handed. And deadly without being dangerous."

*Yeh, but Tims one of those people who wants everyone to like him. He's got a lot to learn, but still has issues with it all.*
