Oh, Logan

He's in the bar, looking far too pleased with himself. He ought to be wearing a button reading: "I'm a genius! Ask me how!" but alas, he is not.

One reason is the upcoming date with Hannah. A masterstroke of manipulation, dating the daughter of the fake witness against him. Plus, she is supercute.

The other? Logan has a hip flask. Full of whiskey. And he shares. Usually.

Behrooz looks from the bar.

It's only for a second, as his eyes avert almost immediately when he sees Logan.

But even so, upon looking back to the bar, he can say with full confidence, "You seem happy."

Logan shrugs. "Things are kind of going my way," he says. "It's a nice change. You?"

He pauses, but doesn't look up yet.

"It's been - um -"

After a moment, he offers, " - interesting."

Logan raises his eyebrow. "Oh?" he says. "Where have you been?"

Behrooz pauses for a moment again, but this time looks up.

... with gold eyes that certainly weren't that color before.

He holds off on trying to explain it in a vagueish way until Logan reacts.

Logan's eyes wiiiiden. A lot. "Whoa," he says. "What's up with your eyes, dude?"

He looks over the door instead now.

"Have you ever... tried to leave here and not gone... where you meant to?"

"Um. No?" Logan says. "Although I have not wanted to go where the Bar has told me to go home. Where did you go?"

He's almost afraid to ask, as if by asking he might get sent there too.

"A forest... somewhere, I don't think it was in my world."

"You look entirely too smug for anyone's good."

She has a habit of sneaking up. It's a thing.

"I'm trying to keep in practice," he says, after he's settled back into his chair. She made him jump. "I'd hate for people to think that I'm not an ass."

"Now that would be tragic," she replies, trying to sound serious. "Worlds might explode. The universe might..." she trails off theatrically, glancing towards the observation window.

"Too late."

"Obviously, I'm not able to keep it up," he says, sighing sadly. "I'm responsible for the deaths of millions of beings."

There is a full-out tragic pose struck. "Oh, the humanity!"

And then she can't help snickering. "So, what's with the cat that got the canary look?"

Logan produces the hip flask. "I am a genius," he says dramatically. "And able to not mooch off of everyone I know on a regular basis. Nice change, huh?"

"And so modest, too." She laughs. "Definitely a pleasant change, yes."

"I do my best. Want a nip?" he asks. "I do kinda owe you, after all."

"Hey, Logan." She hasn't seen him in a while, but she's wondering why he's so happy. And if it's somehow contagious.

"Hi," he says, beaming at her. "What's up?"

Happiness should totally be contagious.

"Just spent about a year at home, how about you?"

[obligatoryass]

"Nowhere near that long. Like, a week," he says. "And things don't totally suck right now, so that's cool. How about you?"

[agirllost]

"That's always good," she agrees. "Things are okay at home, I've been working on my thesis and taking care of my daughter," she smiles slightly. "And my Dad's back here."

Logan smiles back. "Nice," he says. "What happened that he wasn't here?"

Silly Logan. It's a long story, of course.

Her smile fades, "Some things back home," she tucks some hair behind her ear. "It's kind of like a spy story."

"I got back a few days before he did, this time."

Logan nods. "That's cool. So things are still good with you guys?"
