Jean-Luc Picard enters the holodeck doors, decked out in his Dixon Hill outfit, ready to become his favorite detective. When he's dumped into a bar full of patrons that don't all look human or dressed for the era, he's confused, but decides to play along. That's why he'll be found by the fireplace, watching the goings-on with great interest.

Someone else comes to the fireplace and sits down in a free chair. She has a large, worn-looking satchel: she proceeds to open it up and rummage through it, pulling out brightly colored scraps of cloth, examining them, and dividing them into two piles on the floor based on some unknown (to anyone who's not her) criteria.

"Hello," Picard says to the alien. "What've you got there?" He's genuinely interested, and not at all put off by her appearance.

Tali looks up. "Oh. I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." She puts a handful of scraps back in the bag. "Just cloth scraps - for quilting. I'm planning to make a quilt for a friend of mine."

"Quilting? Boy, people on my world haven't done that for years for the most part. It fascinates me, though. I build ships in bottles, which is also seen as rather archaic on Earth."

"Well, where I come from it is not so much a hobby as a necessity. Our resources are scarce, and we must get as much use as possible out of everything. How do you build a ship in a bottle, by the way?" Tali's thinking of space vessels, not nautical ones: she has little if any experience with the latter.

The green-skinned alien looks young, with that slightly gangly look that biped species everywhere seem to be cursed with at a certain age. She moves with a dancer's (or a fencer's) grace as she dodges around patrons who aren't looking where they are going and all of the rats scurrying here and there, carefully balancing a mug of hot chav in her hands.

It's all rather more chaotic than where she's from, but it's a nice change of pace from the study halls, that's for sure. Soon she has made her way to the couch, and the pile of data flimsies she left there when she went in search of a study-break treat.

Picard watches her--he appreciates anything graceful. It's not a leer, just a warrior's appreciation of someone who handles herself well. He nods respectfully toward her.

She nods back as she settles her mug onto the side table - humans are a little difficult to figure out, but she's fairly sure this one's friendly. He doesn't read as overtly hostile, anyway, which is a start.

Now, which flimsy to study first - advanced physics, or the history of the Malraxon system?

Oh, the sexy sexy life of a Jedi Padawan. Laranth wonders if 'normal' Twi'leks are put through this sort of thing, or if she's just that unlucky.

"May I ask what you're looking at?" Picard says, always interested in other cultures and how they work.

Data walks into the bar with purpose-- he intends to order another bowl of cat food, hoping that it might coax Spot out from under the bed. That cat seems to have a innate sense of when it is time for his bath.

He goes straight to the Bar and stops. He accesses his recent memory and realizes something strange that crossed his view during his quick glance around the bar. His gaze immediately returns to the area in front of the fireplace.

He is not quite startled, but he is certainly confused.

"Captain?"

"Data? Is this your holodeck program?" he asks the android. "I didn't realize this deck was in use..."

"Holodeck program?" Data repeats, distracted by it for a moment. "Is that where you entered from, Captain?"

Does this mean that there are two seperate dimensional distortions aboard the Enterprise, both leading to Milliways? Perhaps even three, since Data does not know where Ensign Rager entered...

"Of course it is, Data," Picard says patiently. "How else would I be on the holodeck?"

"Nice hat," says Robo. He can appreciate a good suit too, but really people are missing out on the hats on Robo's side of the door more often than not.

"Thank you," he says politely. Ah, a primitive android. How quaint.

What do you want for a pre-WWII tech base (give or take extra Tesla)?

"Do you mind if I use one of your chairs?" checks Robo waving a sheaf of paper, "I'm catching up on my paperwork here and it's just easier to burn some of the worst pieces."

"As long as you don't burn the chair," Picard says. "What kind of paperwork do you have?"

Moist has a glass of whiskey and he's looking for a good place to sit and try to figure out how to blend here.

He nods to the man in the good suit and ends up taking a nearby seat.

Picard nods back politely. "Hello," he offers.

"You seem to have found a good place to watch everything."

Moist understands how useful that is especially when a magic counter apparently knows his real name.

What about her? Cybernetics aren't uncommon in Jean-Luc's time; the girl gets a passing glance, perhaps an uncomfortable nod if she happens to be looking in his direction.
