After being woken up by his daughter Ryan found it hard to go back to sleep. So, after a quick shower and change of clothes he is downstairs looking for her.

Instead of finding Chris he sees another familiar face

"I am too," he says with a smile, "I think I just needed to know that she and her brother and sister are ok."

Although he still wasn't sure about Caiti...

"And are they?" She's a little worried about the answer.

How to answer this?

"Yeah," he says after a moment. It wasn't a complete lie if things were that bad, Chris would have told him.

"It was difficult -- the suddenness and everything. Chris is from a year after so they're still trying to deal with it. But they're all together, which is good. I think they'll be ok. In time."

Kim blinks and looks down, still feeling guilty for something she could not stop - did not even realize was happening.

"I'm so sorry. I'm just so sorry about what happened to you. I wish we could have stopped it. I wish that Chris wasn't an orphan. She seems like a really nice woman."

"Kim," he begins in a soft voice, "it's not your fault. The only person to blame is Saunders. I'm just happy I have a chance to talk to one of my kids again."

"I'm so happy you had a chance to talk to Chris. I can't imagine how much she must miss you. How did your reunion go?"

"It was great. She's doing ok, she's working at Division right now but is transfering back to New York soon," he looks down and grins, "I'm just thrilled to see her again."

"She works at Division? Wow." Kim smiles a little. "I'm sure she was really thrilled to see you too. It's...I'm really happy the bar decided to do something nice for you."

"Yeah, she doesn't like it too much," he says.

I'm not sure I like it too much, either, he mentally adds.

"I am too. Grateful, really."

"You deserve it, really. Um, this is going to sound kind of strange but after everything that's happened here and how you were really the only person not to judge me when that whole thing with Tony went down...I kind of feel like you're a member of my family."

"Thank you, Kim," Ryan says quietly, still a little in shock.

He smiles at her, unsure of what to say other than the truth.

"That means a lot to hear you say that."

"I never thought I'd say anything like that, either. I mean especially considering how many times you almost got my dad killed but things are different here."

She looks down a little. "It means a lot for me to have someone who doesn't try to take my concern and use it for their own ends."

He's not entirely sure how to respond to her first statement so he just nods.

As a matter of fact, Ryan's not entirely sure how to respond to the second statement either.

"How have you been, Kim? How is everything?"

"Things are okay. Um, kind of okay. I've been trying to eat healthier."

"The bar actually gives you a choice?" he says in a dry voice.

"She keeps giving me healthy food even though it shouldn't matter what I eat anymore."

"Well, not always. But I think that sometimes it thinks I'm eating too many burgers."

"I was surprised when she gave me cigarettes a couple weeks ago."

"She gave you cigarettes? I guess because you started running she figured you deserved a treat."

"More the other way around, I think - a few days of smoking and not running made me realize I needed to start again. I think she just gave me cigarettes so I could relax."

Kim nods. "Did they help?"

"Yeah, kinda. I think I went overboard though - I haven't wanted a cigarette since. Which is probably a good thing."

Kim grins a little. "It's probably a good idea to do everything in moderation. For instance, I think I've OD'd on burgers for now."

"Well, at least now you'll have an excuse to try something you wouldn't normally have. I'm sure the bar could make anything you'd want."

"Good point. What's your favorite kind of food?"

"Italian - I think I like anything Italian. Especially fusilli in a good pesto sauce or cozze. And cannolis but only if they're made with real cannoli cream, not the fake stuff. You?"
