[OOM: Enzo's first Game as a Guardian is more than meets the eye. Rated N for Non-explicit Naughtiness in the prologue and R for ROBOTS!]

One thing no one likes about Games - even those who generally enjoy them, like Enzo - is when they come down in the middle of the night. It may not be bad at the time, but you always pay for it later. On the other hand, no one expects you to be fully functional the day after.

Enzo wants to be, though. He's his system's newest Guardian, for as long as he's still at home, and he owes it to the system to be fully alert and on the ball when he's on duty. And a Guardian is always on duty.

So he's cheating. Hooray for Milliways time-freeze!

In other words: green boy napping onna couch. With a teddy bear. Frisket's curled up on the couch, too, and kind of crowding Enzo's feet.

For some reason this strikes Dani as funny, so she's gone and asked Bar to borrow a camera.

She hopes the flash doesn't wake Enzo up.

It doesn't, in fact.

It does wake Frisket.

Grrrrrrr...

Wuh-oh.

"Uh, hi Frisket." Sheepish smile. "Just...taking a picture. Uh, nice doggie?"

It's an automatic reaction to being startled awake, really. After a moment he wakes up properly and recognizes Dani.

His mental gauge on her runs somewhat as follows: older child - possible but unlikely threat - produces strong affectionate response in Enzo-the-younger - positive balance but keep an eye on her.

He huffs and subsides.

Meanwhile, though, the growling and nearby talking have caused Enzo to stir. "Mmmmph?"

And Dani relaxes.

"Sorry, Frisket," she apologizes, reaching to pet him or scratch behind his ears. "Didn't mean to wake you."

When Enzo starts to wake up, she quickly hides the camera behind her back.

Frisket turns his head slightly, as though to say, oh, very well, if you must. He feels entirely smooth, not furry - pretty much like Enzo, really, but a hint less plasticky and more metallic.

Enzo smiles and opens his eyes. "Hi, Dani," he murmurs groggily. "Wh's processin'?"

"Oh, nothing." She's completely innocent, even with one hand stuck behind her back. See how innocent she is? Nothing suspicious going on here, nope.

Enzo uses that look all the time. "What've you got?" he asks, a little more awake now.

"Got?"

Yes, you, Dani. "You're hiding something," he declares, staring at her half-hidden arm.

"Maybe," she replies shiftily. She's also wondering about the possibility of a hole opening in the floor behind her. Or better yet, handing the camera off to a passing waitrat.

Enzo smirks. "Well, the way I see it, you've got a choice. You can keep hiding whatever it is, or you can stop me from doing THIS!" Oh noes! Surprise tickle attack!

Oh noes indeed!

"Enzo, stop!" Dani shrieks, and pulls her hand out from behind her back to fend him off. "Here; it's a camera, okay?"

Ha ha! Guardian Matrix triumphs!

"A camera?" he repeats, taking it. "But why..." Then he breaks off, turning a rather lovely dark green shade.

He's not the only one blushing.

"You did look cute, with the teddy bear and everything," Dani says in her defense.

Enzo blushes harder at this. He's not unhappy, but he is blushing.

He giggles, but only half-nervously. "Yeah, Momiji gave me that. I invited all the kids here to the party, but he didn't know me yet so he thought I was gonna be a toddler."

"Ah." She can understand how that mistake could be made.

Dani looks somewhat guiltily at the camera; she doesn't know what she's going to do with the picture now.

"It's nice, though," he adds. "Guardian bears at home aren't fuzzy like this; it'd be way too expensive."

He catches her look. "It's okay about the picture. Honest. I don't mind."

"If you're sure..." Maybe she'll get it developed later and share a copy with Dot.

"So, why were you napping on the couch anyway?"

"Yeah, it's cool." (Dani wants a picture of him? It's totally cool.)

He grins. "There was a Game last night. My first one as a Guardian! It went real well, too, but I didn't get much sleep, so I'm catching up."

"Enzo, that's great!" The first game as a Guardian thing, not the lack of sleep thing. "What kind of game was it?"

"Sci-fi. We rebooted as robots!" W00t, robots! "We had to infiltrate the User's base and destroy the User leader. We had lasers and missiles and things, and Matrix was able to transform into a tape deck and I turned into a cassette. Frisket turned into a motorcycle. He got the good alt-form," he says poutily, but he's petting Frisket as he says it.

"Wow. Wish I could have seen it."

"I wish you could've heard it! Matrix was talking all weird, like," and he drones in a very mechanical tone, "'Sound.WAV: superior. Track: inferior.' That was my robot name, Track. And Frisket was Rollover." Frisket complies, and Enzo laughs and rubs his tummy.

"'Course, maybe it's a good thing you couldn't hear it. Matrix had this noise he could make to stun enemies, and I recorded it and then we played it back really really loud, and it prob'ly would've made your ears explode."

She giggles at Enzo's impressions of their game forms, but she makes a face at that last part. She likes her ears, thank you.

"Why'd you play it back really loud? Just because?"
